Luckily, making your own natural lip balm is as easy to make as it is to buy one at the store. The main ingredients that you need are some type of wax, coconut oil, and your choice of essential oils.
While beeswax is a commonly used ingredient in lip balms, there are other alternatives that you can choose. Plant-based alternatives include candelilla, carnauba, and soy wax.
You can also choose between an assortment of essential oils for your natural lip balm, which will affect its scent. Each type of essential oil also has its own benefits. Here are some types of essential oils that you can add to your natural lip balm:
Once you decided on which wax and essential oils to use in your DIY natural lip balm, it’s time to start creating it! Don’t forget that you can always mix more than one essential oil in your lip balm!
Equipment
- Double boiler (or a small cooking pot inside a bigger pot)
- Stirring utensil
- Container for the natural lip balm, such as a small tin or empty lip balm tube
Directions
- Place your double boiler over low heat and start melting the wax.
- Once the wax has melted into liquid, start melting the coconut oil in as well. Mix them together with your stirring utensil.
- After the wax and the coconut oil have been melted and mixed together, add in your essential oils.
- Slowly and carefully pour your mixture into your chosen container for the natural lip balm. Allow it to cool for at least two hours, or until it hardens.
