Although micellar water is starting to appear on our store shelves, it has actually been a popular skincare “secret” in France. France is known to have “hard water” that has a high percentage of calcium and magnesium. This can be very damaging to your skin. As a result, micellar water was sought after for its gentle cleansing properties.

So, What Exactly Is Micellar Water?
Micellar water has micelles, which are a group of microscopic oil molecules. A micelle is made up of a “head” that dissolves impurities and a “tail” that draws out the dirt, oil, and grime on your skin.
Micellar Water Is Better For Your Skin.
Unlike many soap and cleansers, micellar water doesn’t strip your skin and expose it to harsh chemicals. It doesn’t mess with the natural pH of your skin. Since it doesn’t contain any alcohol, there is no stinging sensation after using it. In fact, the oil molecules leave your skin feeling hydrated. Thus, micellar water is great for dry and sensitive skin. So it’s no surprise that it has become so popular in France!
Micellar Water Is Easy To Use.
All you need to do is apply the micellar water on a cotton pad and wipe it over your face. If you’re wearing makeup, the soaked cotton pad will simply wipe it away without smearing it all over your face. The solution is so effective that you don’t need to worry about excessively rubbing the cotton against your skin or irritating it.
You can also use it even if you aren’t wearing makeup- the micellar water will dissolve any oil or dirt on your skin! And since it doesn’t contain any alcohol, you can use it around your eye area without worrying about any stinging sensation.
No need to rinse it off afterward, as it will dry on your skin quickly. You can skip using toner and go straight to your favorite moisturizer afterward. Once you get into the habit of incorporating micellar water into your skincare regimen, your skin will become clearer and more balanced.
My Experience Using Micellar Water
I recently started using micellar water. Some brands are advertised as being effective at removing waterproof makeup. I noticed that the product easily removed my eye makeup in a single swipe of a soaked cotton pad.
Since I don’t have to worry about excessively rubbing the cotton to remove makeup, I began to use it for quick makeup fixes, such as when my winged eyeliner doesn’t come out as well as I would like.
I only need to dip a cotton swab in a little bit of micellar water and use it to erase the winged tip without smearing the rest of my eyeliner!
Micellar water is a gentle but powerful makeup remover that should be a part of your arsenal of skincare products. Many brands are fairly inexpensive, so investing in this product won’t burn a hole in your pocket.
