If you’re visiting Los Angeles for the first time, skip Hollywood Boulevard and head to a horse stable in Griffith Park.

Los Angeles – My horse hiked up the dusty hill, keeping its hooves closely along the edge of the cliff. I could see Griffith Park stretching beneath me. Rabbits hopped on freely and I knew that rattle snakes and coyotes were hidden in the brush. Once I got over the initial terror of being on horseback, I marveled at Los Angeles, which began to glimmer beneath the sunset.

Through the evening fog, I could see the Hollywood Sign, Griffith Observatory, and surrounding downtown Los Angeles. In two hours, we covered over five miles – more than I probably would have seen on foot. By the time the tour was over, it was pitch dark, but the horses knew the path to the stables by heart and maintained their single file line.
