Meet The writer
I came to Los Angeles when I was four years old.
The drive from Minnesota took my family across the United States, through places I’d never heard of like Las Vegas and Denver. There was no internet… no cell phones. Just a paperback, spiral-bound Thomas Guide and a uHaul truck. My young mother had dreams of becoming an actress and recruited her husband, daughter, and cat as lieutenants on a journey that would permanently change our lives.
Growing up, I took the bus across Los Angeles, discovering a freedom most of my peers were not allowed to experience. Freedom didn’t need to be glamorous to be exciting. There was beauty on the streets of LA: the murals, the hidden restaurants, the mom and pop boutiques.
During the summers, I had the opportunity to discover new places. I always kept a journal.
