A bouquet of forgotten flowers left on some tabletop is a sad sight.

Here is a perfected flower recipe to keep your blooms singing all week long.

  1. Wash a vase with dish soap. A taller vase is preferable. Then fill the clean vase with lukewarm water.
  2. Add homemade “flower food”: 1 tablespoon sugar for every 1 teaspoon bleach. The sugar nourishes the flowers, and the bleach keeps bacteria from contaminating the water.
  3. Trim half an inch up the stem, or wherever you think is right.

4. Et voila! Lovely flowers that will last for 7 – 10 days, depending on how fresh they were when they were purchased! Repeat every two or three days.

Here is a good source on how to care for different kinds of flowers.
